Návrat legendy, ktorá príbehovo priamo nadväzuje na datadisk StarCraft: Brood War a ponúka teda možnosť zapojiť sa do konfliktu troch známych rás - Protossov, Terranov, a Zergov, v ktorých radách figurujú dobre známe, ale i úplne nové jednotky.
Nechýbajú samozrejme ani hrdinovia, ktorí posúvajú kupredu dramatický príbeh plný ešte dramatickejších situácií. Čo sa hratelnosti týka, pokračuje druhý diel smerom, ktorý nastavila pôvodná hra a jej datadisk pred desiatimi rokmi. Ide teda opäť o veľmi rýchlu RTS s vybalancovaným pomerom sil všetkých troch hratelných strán, ktoré okrem hlavnej singleplayer kampane, ktorú máte možnosť prežiť za všetky tri strany z iného uhla pohľadu, ponúka i komplexnú multiplayerovú podporu.
Ľudská kampaň začína na planéte Mar Sara, kam sa Jim Raynor vydá bojovať proti Dominionu, skrz hviezdnu mapu si budete na vašom krížniku vyberať ďalšie misie z práve dostupných planét. Čaká na vás kopa volitelných misií i rozvíjajúcich minipríbehov ďalších postáv.
